I would like to tell you about my friend Andrey. He came to the Minnesota with his wife seven years ago. When he came to the USA he didn’t know English, he didn’t have a job, and he didn’t know anything about this country. He told me it was a culture shock for him when he came here, but he began to study English, he found a job and now he is great. He knows English, he has a good job, and he bought a beautiful house. His life is good.

My Father

Thirty five years ago my father was so bad about his life; his life was evil, because of the war, little hope of life, little food and unhappy, without appreciation for the future that will come. When, he got married with my mother, he didn’t have expectation of the future because of the Vietnam War.
He had hope of better life and he would need to work hard. First step was plan like how to escape that war, second leave the little he had in his native land, home and relatives; third step begins his life again try their luck with my mother. After all planned, he fled the war with his fishing boat, helping over 20 people, all escaped with little money, few food and fuel to travel to Japan. There they were permitted only one year and they must leave. He did not speak Japanese language only Vietnamese. He worked it hard, in the assemblies of automobiles. One year later he moved to Paraguay with the help of a Catholic church. He began his life back again, all new, language, culture, jobs, food and two little babies.
He determined to continue his life in Paraguay, began to study Spain, worked on farms in the planting of tomatoes, potatoes and some fruits, creation and production of chicken eggs. He worked as selling, servicing of watches, tried everything to keep the family. He learned the culture of parents wondering about the future of his eight children. Five years later he opened his grocery store, with specially food, vegetable, and fruits.

Four years ago Pang was going to school. She was new in this country so she wanted to study English. She didn’t understand and she thought she couldn’t speak. Every day after school she studied hard because she needed to learn more.
One thing that hasn’t changed for her is that she still studies hard but she likes it. Now she is an excellent student because she is never late and she is on time, also Pang does her homework and follows school rules. She is a good attention in school and her English is better than the first year.

He is my husband. He has lived here in Minnesota for 4 year ago. Before he came here he lived in California, for many years like 24years, He came here because he needed a change for his life, new job, and new life. How to Be an Excellent Student

Before I came to the United States, I knew none of letters in English. I was going to school. I was just like a newborn baby. I didn’t know how to speak English, read and write at all. The first week I went to school, my teacher asked, “What is your name?” And I didn’t know what she was saying to me. I thought she told me how to speak but she didn’t. She just asked what my name was. When she and any student asked me, “What is your name?” My answer back to them was, “What is your name?” They said, “No, what is your name?” with their finger pointed at me. I just said the same question back to them again. I had repeated again and again to them until they got angry with me. I thought that was the right answer to say back but it wasn’t. After a few months I knew what people tried to say. Each night I studied very hard to understand English until now.
Now I am able to speak English better. I also know how to read and write in English. Now I could help my children study, teach them how to do their homework, and meet with their teachers. Now I know how to answer any question when people ask anything about me. Now I got my diploma and I also plan to go to college. I’ll study harder to reach college one day soon I hope.

A hard-working person

I will write about a person who is hard working. This is my husband Alex. He moved to the US in 2001. He didn’t speak English, didn’t understand, and didn’t have friends. He studied English in college. He studied English in the morning and worked from 2am-6am. He delivered newspapers. When he finished college, he started work on transportation. He slept only four hours. When he finished work on transportation he starts work at the car shop. He fixed cars and painted. He worked day and night.
Now my husband has a good job. He got a license and he opened a company. My husband works in construction. He loves his job. His hobby is to paint cars. Now he is a US citizen. He speaks English well, and has a lot of friends.
I think my husband is successful.

I’m in Metro North because my sister was a student here and I saw that is a good school. The system the learning is daily and easy I think we could learn too much with them.
My goal is speak, write, listen to and reading very well as soon as possible.
I can see how the school helped me. I feel comfortable when I speak and answer better with somebody. The classes daily have helped a lot.
One important reason, it is true if you want speak other language, you can, just want and do it. There are different forms for new language. For example, we have here, conversation, newspapers, reading… and sometimes homework.

A Happy Person

My husband is very nice person. He came to the United States 22 years ago. He got married in 1997 but his exwife was not good a person. He was bored, unhappy, and he didn’t like to live with exwife together. He was very tired and unlucky. In 2003 he divorced and he got better. In 2006 he went to visit his parents and met me in Vietnam. He got married to me. I live together with him. We were happy in our wedding. Right now, he is very fun and happy. We are going somewhere together, go to work, go to the party, the shopping, the picnic… we cook and eat together, we have the same ideas. I understand him, and we have a good relationship. I think in the future we will have a baby. I will try to do something good for the family. We are very happy and a good family too.

I want to get my GED very soon Ngoan wants to go to citizenship classes and Liubovi wants to know how to write in English. I want to visit to my family and find a good job.
