My First Day in The United States

Let me tell you about my first day in America. It was eight and a half years ago. I remember everything as it was yesterday. I remember meeting my family at the Minneapolis airport. We had a nice dinner. I was really happy.
I arrived to Philadelphia late in the afternoon. I spent between 2-3 hours at the airport. I travelled again to Minneapolis. I arrived around 10:30pm. My big family including my mother, sister and my brother-in-law was waiting for me with flowers. It was so touching!
After collecting my suitcase we all went to one of my sisters’ house to eat a wonderful “Welcome” dinner. But I was very worried about my daughter because she fell down on the floor. One said I was happy, other said I was sad because of my daughter.
As by the night I was very exhausted I was lying in my bed, a lot of strange feelings came to me. I was happy, excited and sad. I was happy to be here because I see my family after a long time. Also I was scared of the new beginning.

My name is Svetlana. I am 25 years old. I have two boys. Their names are David and Andrew. I also have a husband. We got married on March 19, 2005. Before coming to the US we lived in Belarus. Our country is situated in the middle of Europe. It is between Poland and Russia.
I have a sister in the US. She came to this country 3 years ago.
When I came to the US I was very glad. I like this country. I want to have a house and a playground for my children. Also I want to have a swimming pool near the house, and many flowers. It is my dream. I hope that I will have it in this country. Maybe it won’t happen right now but in the future. I want to speak English very well. If I know English well I will find a good job. It will be good for me and my family.

Krasnodarskiy region it is a rich beautiful, big and hot region. Many people come here to eat at different restaurants, go shopping, see live shows, and have fun in the mountains. There is a big Black sea and beautiful beach. People can swim in the sea and get tan. There are many parks and beautiful hotels, library and museums. In Krasnodarskiy region the air is clean, many tourists visit historical places.

Birthday

When I opened the door, I saw a basket with a puppy. I was so surprised because I didn’t know who sent that and whose it was. I looked around me; nobody was there. Then I looked in the basket, I found a note saying, ‘’Happy Birthday’’. I was surprised and happy because I forgot my birthday. My family loved me!

Car Problems

I called to ask my friend to go out, but he asked me if I would pick him up because his car was broken. I asked him, “What happened with your car?” He said, “My car has a lot of problems and I can’t fix it because it is very old to drive.” I told him, “If you want to buy a new car, I know some good dealers around. ”

My First Day in America

I am Inna. My country is Russia. I moved to the U.S.A. in May of 2007. My husband and I and our four children came to New York. We spent a night at the hotel. They we arrived in the state of Minnesota. At the airport my family was met by my brother. We didn’t have a lot of luggage. We took only necessary things with ourselves; clothes, footwear, books, photos, plates, and spoons. It seemed to me that the USA met us with love. In the first day my brother brought my family to the lake where we fried a shish kebab. I was surprised that people smiled at each other. I liked buildings, roads, bridges, shops, clinics and hospitals. In the USA there are many lakes and trees. Has surprised that a zoo was free. It is a lot of cars also there are no trams, trolleybuses and the underground, it is bad. Has surprised that there are very expensive houses and cars. It is not enough songbirds, it does not please me. Basically in the USA it is pleasant to me. I very strongly want to learn English language.

My First Day in America

I came to the U.S. on June 22, 2007. My younger brother came to the U.S. four years before and filed document for the brothers and sisters in his family. We decided to come to the U.S. I came here with my wife and two children. My mother and my sisters came here too. I brought books, photos, and special tools for my job. My first day was in New York after 11 hours of flying from Moscow. We had to travel to Moscow by bus to stay at the hotel overnight because the flight was early the next day. I was excited when I saw big nice buildings and many boats on the lake from the airplane window. It was a very hard day for us, because of the time difference and a long flight. Nevertheless we were very happy.

My First Day in America

I came to the United States on January 27, 2009, about four months ago. I came to the United States because my husband and I were engaged. When I passed my interview in the embassy my fiancé bought a ticket for me to come to the U.S.A. I wasn’t nervous about my trip because my fiancé took care of everything. When I landed at the airport of the United States. There was a lot of snow and it was very cold. I said “Oh! I only saw snow of a movie. Now I can see and touch it myself.”
The first problem was that I didn’t know English. I couldn’t speak, and I couldn’t drive a car. Everything was difficult. I thought that when I lived in my country I was smart, but right now I look like a baby. It’s very different. Even though I always think someday my hope will come true. One month later after coming to the United States, I went to ESL school. Three month later, I feel it’s quite easy because I understand what teachers say and I have a lot of friends at school. They are from different countries. Now I can drive the car and I can speak English a little. I think my hope will never be lost.

I called to ask my friend to go out, but I didn’t know about his plan to play a joke on me. It was my birthday that day. When I spoke with him on the phone we decided to meet in the park in 15 minutes. I come to the park and saw my friends who wanted to surprise me. It was really funny, and we had a big party.

TV Show Interruptions

While I was watching TV my children came back from school. The TV show was very funny so I didn’t want to open the door when I hear the knocking. But I had to go open the door. When I be back to watch it again it was already done. I was going to watch another show, but my children wanted to eat. And I didn’t get to see the TV show. I thought next time I will watch the show to the end. But something else will happen. So I will never get to watch it again.

Nature

While I was watching TV, I saw a program about nature. That day I saw a program about animals in the world it’s a very sad story. One of the deer and its son were walking on the frozen lake. The son fell in the frozen water because the ice broke under his feet. After maybe four hours some people came to help them. They tried to help the mother with her son. Unfortunately they couldn’t help both of them. They could only help the mother; her son died under water. When I saw that story it made me cry.

The Thief

While I was watching tv, which is what I like to do every night before I going to bed. I saw an old lady about 85years old. She was walking outside her house when a young guy came behind her. He took her, necklace and ran away. I hope police will find him one day .The reporter man said that the situation is not good. He recommended that people keep their eyes open in area. Another old person went shopping one day and somebody got close to him to saying hi, in reality he stole his wallet. When the reporter came asked questions the old man said that he live in that area I don’t know his name but he looked at my neighbor. It’s too bad that elderly people face such a major problem, I feel sorry for them.

MY THREE GOALS

I am writing about goals that I need to achieve in the next five years. First, I study English very hard so I can speak and understand what people speak. After that, I will go to college and get a degree. The second goal, I will find a job with the degree and save money. The last goal, I will buy a car with the money that I have.
In fact, the first goal, I have to study English very hard because everyone in America speaks English. In order to achieve this goal this goal, I go to school, read the books, listen to the radio or television, meet many people, so I can speak fluently and understand what people speak. After that I will go to Saint Paul College and have a degree in two years. Indeed, I want to change a new career so I will study Electronic Technician. I think it is difficult for me to achieve this goal but I try very hard to do it.
Next, to the second goal, I will find a good job with the degree. I will find the information about the job in newspapers, or online. I like to work in the factory so I can study many experiences when I work in it. Then, I will have money to support for myself. After that, I will give money to my family in order to help to pay the house and save little money in the bank.
The last goal, I will buy a new car with money that I save after one year of hard work. And I didn’t know how to fix cars so I will buy a new Toyota Camry car. It will help me to save the fuel.
According to me, my three important goals that I need to achieve in the next five years are studying English very well and going to college, finding a good job, and buying a car. I will try to achieve all of these. If I do all of three things, I will feel happy in my life.
