I came the United States American from Vietnam four month ago. I began school to learn English after one month. I live in the City of Blaine. My family rent an apartment near a supermarket and mall. My family has four people. We have two sons. My husband works 4 days a week and my two sons go to school every day. My first son is 19 years old. He finished class 12 in Blaine high school. My second is 9 years old. He is in class 3 in elementary. I work in a nails salon every day. We really love America and like it here because weather here is very good and people are very skilled.

The Trip
I remember when we went to the beach at the river [Nile]. There were many trees and a lot of people in every place the beach.
We brought with us too much food but we couldn’t be happy because we were board and quite. The people that were next to us were singing, telling jokes to each other and playing games, but they didn’t have any food. Then we invited them to our group. We sat together; we ate, laughed, sang, and played games. The fieldtrip wasn’t expected to be that fun, but it was a field trip I will never forget.

Wedding in My Country
When we want to get married the first thing we do is find a partner. Guys or girls see somebody they like at a market or other place. A guy starts to talk to a girl and if the girl starts to talk too, that means they will meet again. They can only meet outside. They can’t date in house or in apartment. After two or three months, they start talking about engagement. If they agree, a guy needs to go to a girl’s family to tell them he wants to marry their daughter. Her family tells him to come back two days or one week later. Her family starts to ask his friends or neighbors if he’s a good guy. If they say to him ok the guy starts to buy for the wedding. He might buy a bedroom and something for a girl. After that they make invitations and send them to friends and family. Three days before the wedding a guy’s family starts cooking for to have a wedding. They rent a wedding hall with hotel room on the day of the wedding. In the afternoon people start to come to the wedding hall and then the guy goes with his family and his friends to many cars for the people to take the girl from her family house. The guy wears a black suit and the girl wears a white dress. They drive around one hour and then go to wedding hall to meet the family. All night they go to hotel room the following day we can call them a husband and wife.

Xuan goes to Vietnam restaurant. The menu is in Vietnamese. She likes to eat BUNBOHUE. HUTIUNAM VANJ, she doesn’t know the translation of it in English. Sometimes she doesn’t like to entertain guests at home because she likes to be outside and she goes to other friends.
Tolera likes to eat ice cream. His favorite ice cream flavor is chocolate.
Wisam likes to cook everyday for her family and guests. She prefers to cook barbecue. For her the weather is not a problem. If it snows Wisam makes barbecue inside.
Yodviga goes grocery shopping once a week because she is a fan of shopping.
Elena enjoys eating spicy food. She prefers Mexican food. She became a vegetarian 3 years ago. She doesn’t like to eat meat.
Svetlana knows how to make pizza by herself because it’s not difficult. She doesn’t go to restaurants because she doesn’t have money it is more expensive than cooking.
Jwad drinks coffee every day in the morning. He likes black coffee with sugar but no milk.
Lesly eats sandwich usually for lunch because it’s easy to make. She eats snacks during the day. She likes fruit because it’s very good for your body.

In our country we have traditional weddings. The man has to walk to the girl’s house. He must have money so he can give it to the people who keep the girl. When it is over the girl and guy have to walk to church. After church they go to the guy’s house and have a party. Then the married couple has to dance on one chair. Then some people steal the girl and hide her. The guy has to find her and pay some money. When everybody is eating, the guy and girl have to kiss. The length of their kissing means how long they are going to be together.

Father
My father’s name is John Doe. He is 75 years old, but he’s a strong man. He lives together with my mom in Minneapolis MN. He can speak two languages, English and Spanish. He was a Post office inspector in my country, the United States. But after 1996, the post Office became the postal service in the United States, My father couldn’t work. He changed to a new job.
